The other day in my Instagram stories, someone asked for time management tips. I was going to reply, but then realized that I have so many tips to share that a blog post would be better.⁣

How I Get Sh** Done

My life is run on a tight schedule – especially when you work full-time and have three businesses you are trying to grow – also full-time. So it I don’t get my crap together, it’s basically me being lazy or not being organized with my time.

And don’t get me wrong, I am not perfect when it comes to time management and love learning new ways and tips to help me prioritize my life.

But for now, these are the time management tips that have helped me with my daily routine.

Google Calendar

Google Calendar

This keeps me SANE. Schedule your life out and color code everything. Workouts, work blocks (to focus), date nights, appointments. I have some friends who LITERALLY schedule their showers, brushing their teeth, the whole sha-bang!

Pro Tip: If you have a significant other, sync your Google Calendars so you can see everything on one.⁣⁣ You can also use calendar apps like Cozi and color code each household member.

Make a To-Do List

Before I end my day, I make a list of things I need to get done or ideas that are on my mind. If I don’t get to it I do it in the morning. Then I take that list and break it into 3 categories – Must Do, Should Do, Would Like to Do.

Must Do, Should Do, Would Like To Do

Items that are must do, HAVE to get done. Items that I should do, are basically second priority, and so on. I NEVER touch the should or woulds until the musts are done.⁣

Work Blocks

Especially when you work from home, but can be useful to anyone. Schedule a time block one your calendar where you are focused on getting work done. No phone calls, no social media, you’re in focus mode.

I usually do 1-3 hour time blocks. This is great when you are in the “Get Sh** Done” mindset. ⁣

Pomodoro Technique

This is great for EVERYTHING in life. Especially when it comes to cleaning the house.

  1. Set a timer for 25 minutes of work, no distractions.
  2. Break for 5 minutes.
  3. Repeat 3-4 times breaking for 25-30 minutes on the final run.

If an idea or distraction pops into your head write it down, but immediately get back to your task.⁣

Turn off the TV, Turn on the Music

While I love having the TV on in the background, it can be distracting. So if I go into total focus mode, I turn off the TV and instead play some music. I try to play more of the mellow sounds – acoustic covers, Frank Sinatra, Ron Pope, oldies, Ed Sheeran, or some throwbacks to high school.

Light a Candle

I am all about setting the mood. Candles are my jam and I love lighting a good candle to really get me in focus.

If you prefer diffusing essential oils, get yourself a beautiful diffuser!

Get Things DONE!

While, my tips aren’t fool proof, they definitely help me manage my time a little bit better, focus, and get tasks completed that need to get done!
